IN 2021, THINK LIKE A RACEHORSE

It’s self evident. 2020 has been a really hard year. Really hard doesn’t even cover it, does it? It’s been devastating to some of us who have lost loved ones to the dastardly COVID-19. Others of us have lost friends, incomes, some days even our ability to laugh at a really funny joke. Okay. it’s over. Thank goodness, it’s over! 2021 is going to be a lot better.

Yes, 2021 is going to be better. How do I know?

We’ve learned so much in 2020. About what is important and who is important to us. About how to handle the unexpected and to maneuvre through the difficult new challenges we never thought to see in our daily lives. We’ve learned that masks are our best friends. That hand sanitizer is a necessity not a luxury. That supporting each other by ordering take-out instead of eating in can become a way of life if we need it to. That going to the grocery store can be like navigating an obstacle course trying to stay a safe distance from other shoppers.

Perhaps the most important thing we’ve learned is how resilient we are. How strong we can be when called upon. How flexible we are when we have to be. Most of all, that we have the power within us to recognize the new demands on us and adapt to them with strength and courage and stamina.

How shall we approach 2021? Like a racehorse!

Imagine a sleek, strong, powerful, running machine, at the gate, chomping at the bit, ready to get out there and dominate the pack! All that power and energy is totally focused on one thing, out-running all the other horses to be the first one at the finish line.

Does the racehorse think about how hard the course is? About how long he has to run, how many competitors he has to pass or how nervous he is? Probably not. He knows what he's there to do. He's trained and ready to do it. He's totally focused on winning.

We all know what we’re here to do. We need to focus on winning!

Inside each of us is the power, the energy and the stamina of a racehorse. We know what we have to do to stay safe and to keep others safe at the same time. We know we can stay the course and get through to the end of these hard days, when COVID-19 will finally have been controlled and we can go back to leading what we used to think of as normal lives. And if at times we experience that irrational fear that says we can’t do this for another day, we can take a deep breath and think of all that power pounding down the track to the finish line. That's you, leading the pack!

You are the racehorse. You'll have all the confidence you need when you harness your powerful energy and let your inner strength run!
